The Lac bleu d'Arolla (2090 m above sea level) is situated at the bottom of the Val d'Hérens in an enchanting alpine site amidst larch trees, pine trees, marmot and chamois . In winter, an abundant layer of snow covers this high-altitude region. Snowshoes and poles are highly recommended to reach the Lac Bleu, which is frozen in winter most of the time. Although the azure water only reappears on the return of fine weather and milder temperatures, the view of the surrounding unspoilt landscape is well worth the effort of the ascent.
